The big day finally arrived and Gwen went to her first prom! She looked absolutely adorable.
Yesterday, R gave her a manicure.
I finished hemming the dress right before midnight. Then while she was in school this morning I came home to make a ribbon flower hair clip and stitch a matching bib with more ribbon flowers. I couldn’t find a slip in her size so we used a camisole and a refashioned a half slip out of one of my old ones.
Gwen also sported some very pretty demi-gloves hand crocheted for her by a friend. They set off the manicure beautifully and she got a lot of compliments on them.
She had a very cute date.
This prom was at Alexander’s school. Gwen goes there in the summer and saw lots of teachers she has had over the years.
I will be the first to admit that I had the best time of all! When Gwen was born with cerebral palsy, mental retardation and epilepsy all the dreams of proms, ballet lessons and other rites of passage seemed out of reach. Thank goodness I was wrong! It has been a joy to realize that her life can be as full and meaningful as anyone else’s. My life is certainly far richer since she is in it.
Now take one more look at our beautiful daughter and don’t dare leave without commenting!
