A beach bag for my sister

This is what my sister got for her birthday- a new beach bag!

It was a thrift store skirt in its former life. I love reconstructing things.

The bag is lined with skirt fabric.  When I finished,  only the waistband, 2 buttons and a few scraps were left. It arrived at my sister’s home in FL yesterday and will be put to good use after Easter “when all the tourists leave”.

The pattern I used is Butterick 3799. This is a great basic tote pattern that can look really fabulous when made with interesting fabrics. My mom, MIL and SIL got a variation of this bag for Christmas a few years ago.
